The event formally commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by a Na’at in praise of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (?). The National Anthem was then presented. Subsequently, the Director General, Department of Libraries, Islamabad, Mr. Muhammad Arshad, delivered the opening remarks. Highlighting the significance of Independence Day, he stated that Pakistan came into being as a result of a great struggle and countless sacrifices.

During the seminar, informative and thought-provoking discussions were held on various important topics. Prof. Dr. Z.A. Qureshi and Mr. Nazeer Tabassum spoke on “Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the Pakistan Movement,” highlighting Quaid-e-Azam’s political vision, leadership, and struggle for the rights and aspirations of the Muslims of the subcontinent. The speakers also discussed his principled political stance and tireless efforts for the creation of Pakistan.

Later, Mr. Ghulam Abbas spoke on “The Practical Role of the Armed Forces of Pakistan in Strengthening Pakistan,” while Ms. Nida Mushtaq discussed “The Role of Women in the Pakistan Movement,” highlighting the valuable contributions and sacrifices made by women during the struggle for independence.

Similarly, Mr. Asif Ali spoke on “The Role of Sindh in the Pakistan Movement,” shedding light on the political struggle in Sindh and its significant contribution to the creation of Pakistan.

At the conclusion of the event, a cake-cutting ceremony was held to mark Independence Day. The Director General, Mr. Muhammad Arshad, distinguished guests, speakers, and officers and staff members of the Department of Libraries participated in the ceremony. Special prayers were also offered for the security, progress, prosperity, and stability of Pakistan.

The event was attended by officers and staff of the Department of Libraries, library professionals, teachers, students, researchers, and book enthusiasts. Participants appreciated the seminar and book exhibition, describing them as meaningful and purposeful academic and literary activities organized in connection with Independence Day.

The event titled “Pakistan’s Story Through Books” reflected the commitment of the Department of Libraries, Islamabad, to promoting books and reading culture while continuing to play its role in creating awareness among the younger generation about Pakistan’s history, heritage, and national identity.
