Islamabad public Library

Islamabad public Library (Formerly Central Secretariat Library) was founded in 1948 at Karachi, the same was shifted to Islamabad in the year 1981, its main features were to provide a centre for continuing Education, information, enjoyment and positive use of leisure, The government of Pakistan has decided to convert its existing central secretariat Library Islamabad into a public library for residents of Islamabad and surrounding areas by the Library by the name of ISLAMABAD PUBLIC LIBRARY with effect from 1st July, 1996 as there was a single Public library in Islamabad.  This library was functioning under the administrative control of Department of Libraries vide official notification of Ministry of Education published in the Gazette of Pakistan Part-II, No. 67(KE)/96, date 30-06-1996 to achieve the followings:

a). Education: to foster and provide means for self-development of the individual at every stage of education.

b).  Information: to bring to the individuals information particularly on the topics of current concern.

c). Culture:  to serve as centre of cultural life for promoting a keener participation, enjoyment and appreciation of all the arts in the community.

d).  Leisure:    to encourage the positive use of leisure and providing material for relaxation

Membership of Islamabad Public Library

Membership of Islamabad Public Library is free of cost for the residents of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, but for the security those who wants to become a member and wants to borrow book will have to  pay Rs. 1000/- for the security which will be refundable.
